He earned his degree in Biology in 1963 and his PhD in Biology in 1970, both from the Faculty of Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). In 2002, he received a Diploma in BioGerontology from the “Heberto Alcázar Montenegro” School of Gerontology in Querétaro City.

In the public sector, between 1962 and 1967, he conducted research related to rainforest ecology at the Forestry Research Institute and on the ecology of arid grasslands at the Agricultural Research Institute, as well as on human genetics in the Genetics Program of the National Nuclear Energy Commission. The results of this work were presented at various national conferences and led to the writing and publication of several articles.

His first teaching experience dates back to his third and fourth years as a Biology student in 1960 and 1961, when he served as a teaching assistant for the required course Comparative Animal Physiology and later for the elective course Cellular Physiology.

In 1967, he joined the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) as a researcher in the Department of Experimental Biology at the Institute of Biology, where he served as Secretary from 1970 to 1973. He also taught at the Faculty of Sciences. In 1979, he joined the Center for Research in Cellular Physiology, later transferring to the Institute of Cellular Physiology as a Senior Researcher in charge of the Cell Biology Laboratory, a position he held until January 1997. From May 1985 to January 1997, he served as Academic Secretary of that Institute.

The results of his research have been published in a total of 26 articles in nationally and internationally distributed journals, as well as in 6 book chapters and approximately 30 popular science articles, primarily on topics related to cell origin and evolution. Since 1963, he has participated in numerous national and international academic conferences, presenting more than 35 papers.

Since 1969, he has directed or co-directed 30 undergraduate theses and 5 graduate theses. Currently, the vast majority of his students are engaged in research and teaching at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM), and the University of California, in the United States, as well as at various universities throughout Mexico, such as the Universities of Baja California, Querétaro, Puebla, and Nayarit.

Since 1961, he has been a member of various national and international academic and professional associations.

In the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), since 1967, he taught more than 10 different semester-long courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. From 1968 to 1975, he was in charge of the required undergraduate course in Cell Biology, and from 1976 to 1997, he taught the elective seminar in Cell Biology II, as well as the course in Protocyte Biology for the first semester of the new Biology degree program at the same Faculty.

At the Academic Unit of Professional and Graduate Studies of the College of Sciences and Humanities and at the Faculties of Sciences and Medicine of UNAM, he participated as a guest lecturer in several undergraduate and graduate courses, teaching various topics related to cell biology and the origin and evolution of the cell.

In addition to postgraduate courses at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), from 1982 to 1987, he participated as a visiting professor in the Master's Program in Microbiology at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Autonomous University of Guanajuato.

Since 1987, he has been a member of several tutorial committees for master's and doctoral students in the Faculties of Sciences, Chemistry, and Medicine, as well as in the Academic Unit of Professional and Postgraduate Studies at the College of Sciences and Humanities of UNAM.

In 1967, he began participating in refresher courses and workshops for high school and university teachers, both in Mexico City and throughout the country, which currently number more than 30. From 1990 to 1996, he offered a course every year.

Since 1969, he has presented more than 140 public lectures in a wide variety of forums.

Since 1982, he has been a member of the Editorial Committee of the popular science journal Boletín de Educación Bioquímica (Biochemistry Education Bulletin), the official publication of the Mexican Association of Biochemistry Professors, AC, of ​​which he is a founding member. From 1993 to 1997, he served as its Editor-in-Chief. He is also a member of the advisory board of the journal Ciencias (Sciences), published by the Physics Department of the Faculty of Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM); and a member of the editorial board of the journal Latin.

Elizabeth Flores Rodríguez is a biologist, a graduate of the Faculty of Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where she earned her degree in 1998. She has completed several diploma programs, including one in BioGerontology at the "Heberto Alcázar Montenegro" School of Gerontology, from which she received her diploma in 2002. Since then, she has been a member of the faculty.

In the field of education, she has taught various undergraduate courses since 1990. From 1992 onward, she has participated in ten professional development courses for high school teachers at UNAM and the Colegio de Bachilleres (College of Baccalaureate Studies). Since 2002, she has taught in the BioGerontology Diploma program at the "Heberto Alcázar Montenegro" School of Gerontology, as well as in various courses on Preventive Gerontology for staff who work with older adults and for the general public.

Since 1993, she has authored or co-authored seven popular science articles, four editorials, and fifteen notes in various journals. She is also a co-author of a book chapter. She has contributed to ten anthologies as supplementary material for various courses taught to high school teachers.

Since 1993, she has participated in eleven national conferences and one international conference, presenting sixteen papers.

She was an associate editor of the Boletín de Educación Bioquímica (Biochemistry Education Bulletin), the newsletter of the Mexican Association of Biochemistry Teachers, from 1995 to 2000 and is an active member of the association.

Biologist with a Master's and Doctorate in Science from the Faculty of Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

He served as an adjunct professor of Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine during the 1994-1995 academic year and again during the 1995-1996 academic year. Since 1996, he has been a tenured professor (Category B) at the Faculty of Medicine, teaching Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He participated as a Professor in the Gerontology Diploma program offered annually at the Heberto Alcázar-Montenegro School of Gerontology, S.C., from 1996 to 2000.

He has supervised four undergraduate theses and is a co-advisor for one specialist thesis and one master's thesis, entitled: "Diabetes mellitus in rats supplemented with glycine. A histological study"; "Biochemical and anatomopathological evaluation of an insulin-dependent diabetic rat model treated with glycine and taurine"; "Evaluation of the effect of DNase I (apoptotic enzyme) on the viability, proliferation capacity, and tumor growth of the B16-F10 melanoma cell line. An in vitro and in vivo study"; and "Evaluation of the antiviral activity of a fungal tRNA in a murine model infected with respiratory syncytial virus." Specialization: “Association of Hypertriglyceridemia in Pregnancy-Induced Hypertensive States.” Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences: “Evaluation of the Protective Effect of Copper Sulfate in an Experimental Model of Parkinson’s Disease: Participation of Nitric Oxide.”

He has participated as a speaker at 50 national and international conferences. He has secured two research grants, one from the Pfizer Scientific Institute and another from the Sectoral Funds of the Health Sector. He has published 18 articles in specialized journals, both national and international, and is a reviewer for scientific journals indexed in Medline and PubMed.

He has received the following awards:

• First place in the free paper category, 1999, for the work “Metabolic Improvement in Diabetic Rats Using the Amino Acids Glycine or Taurine,” awarded by the Mexican Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology.

• First place in the Free Papers category, 1999, for the work: “Research on the Biology of Aging,” awarded by the Mexican Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology.

• Award for the work “Reliability and validity of a nicotine addiction scale,” at the 2nd World Assembly on Tobacco Counters Health, held in India.

She was born in Mexico, where she began her piano and music studies with Berthe Huberman de Odnoposoff. She completed her degree as a concert pianist at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City. For several years, she studied with Luz María Puente. Awarded a scholarship by the Ibero-American Cooperation Institute, she furthered her studies in Spain with Joaquín Soriano, Beata Monstavicius, and Agustín Serrano. From that point on, she resided in Madrid.

Her repertoire encompasses both traditional and contemporary music. She has premiered numerous works by Spanish and Mexican composers. She has collaborated on many occasions with the Center for the Dissemination of Contemporary Music.

She represented Spain at the 17th (1989) and 30th (2002) editions of the Cervantino International Festival in Guanajuato, Mexico, where she performed world premieres. “Sound Morphology I” by Carlos Cruz de Castro and “Reflections and Memories” by Francisco Núñez (both works dedicated to her and written especially for the occasion) in 1989, as well as “Tango Herreño” by Zulema de la Cruz in 2002. Radio Clásica of Radio Nacional de España has recorded several of her recitals.

In 1993, she recorded a CD commissioned by the National Institute of Fine Arts of Mexico with works expressly dedicated to her by Spanish and Mexican composers. She maintains an active teaching career, having been a Piano Professor at the “Adolfo Salazar” Professional Conservatory of Music in Madrid since 1988.

She teaches courses on “Didactics of Piano Technique,” ​​“Pedagogy Applied to Piano Teaching,” and “Piano Avant-Gardes of the 20th and 21st Centuries” at universities, conservatories, and music schools in both Spain and Mexico.

Biologist Pierre Favreau completed his degree in Biological Sciences at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain) in the late 1990s, collaborating as an intern at the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa.

In Mexico, he collaborates with the Instituto de Investigaciones Científicas Hans Selye, A.C., advising on research projects and presenting the results of his work at national and international scientific congresses.

After completing his university studies, he has also devoted himself to writing, advertising, and scientific communication, addressing various current issues in the scientific and medical fields and collaborating with several publishers and agencies specializing in scientific and medical content.

He has also ventured into film and documentary production, participating as both a screenwriter and project development director.

He has developed scientific outreach and continuing education projects as Director of Strategic Planning at Queruva, a Mexican agency dedicated to communication, continuous training, and the production of medical and scientific content.

He is currently expanding various lines of scientific research at different university institutions.

He was a reviewer for the book «50 Years of Basic and Applied Research», a work that compiles the Institute's research from the 1960s to 2000 and was published in 2006 by Scientyc Ediciones.

He is currently working on the review of the book «70 Years of Basic and Applied Research», which will present important results from the Institute's most recent research and activities.

François Favreau holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). The title of his thesis was: «Effect of thiamine pyrophosphate on the homeostasis of reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH)».

During his academic training, he collaborated at the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa in Madrid.

He was also a high-performance athlete at the Centro de Alto Rendimiento in Madrid, where he participated in scientific projects applied to high-level competitive sports.

He currently resides in Mexico, where he conducts research at the Instituto de Investigaciones Científicas Hans Selye, A.C., focusing on the use of coenzymes, enzymes, and nucleic acids.

Among the coenzymes mainly used in his research on energy metabolism are thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP), or cocarboxylase, and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), stable in solution.

His studies cover both the experimental level—particularly in the recovery of membrane potential in lymphocytes and neurons—and the clinical level, in stable patients with diabetes mellitus and in patients with premature and/or advanced complications, such as neuropathy, retinopathy, and nephropathy.

Among the enzymes used in his research are lysosomal enzymes, such as ribonuclease and deoxyribonuclease, used as adjuvants in acute and chronic inflammatory and infectious processes.

He is currently reviewing the book «70 Years of Basic and Applied Research», which will present important results from the Institute's most recent research and activities.
